The Courtneys Return with "Mars Attacks" 7-Inch

BY Alex HudsonPublished Oct 8, 2014

The Courtneys have gone through multiple pressings of last year's insanely popular self-titled 12-inch, and soon fans of the hotly tipped Vancouver indie pop trio will have a new piece of vinyl to get their hands on. The band's "Mars Attacks" 7-inch will be out through Hockey Dad Records on November 4.

This single mixes up the group's boppy, noisy pop sound a bit, since it features a guest verse from local rap scientist Young Braised. Beyond that, the tune offers what a press release describes as "driving bass, ethereal vocals and nostalgic pop culture exploitation."

On the B-side is a remix by Vancouver producer Bobby Draino, who apparently "reimagines the track through a 3 a.m. acid haze, distorting it into a rich bouncy warehouse party jam."

"Mars Attacks" will be limited to 500 copies. Of these, 300 will come on fluorescent pink-coloured vinyl, 100 will come on "glowing orange soda" vinyl, and 100 will be on mail order-exclusive "neon alien green" wax. You can pre-order the release now over here.

The band will celebrate the release with a hometown show at the Fox Theatre on November 7. Appropriately, Young Braised and Bobby Draino are also on the bill. Along with the release show, the Courtneys also have several U.S. dates coming up opening for Tegan and Sara.
