Club 8 Give Us The People's Record

BY Josiah HughesPublished Feb 23, 2010

When we mentioned the imminent Swedish pop invasion of 2010, we weren't kidding. The latest Scandinavian group to announce a new album is long-running duo Club 8. The group, made up of songwriter Johan Angergård (of Acid House Kings fame) and vocalist Karolina Komstedt, have revealed plans to release their seventh full-length album.

The new disc is called The People's Record, and will be the band's first time working with a producer other than Angergård. According to a press release, "The band has travelled to Brazil for inspiration, bought records made in the '70s in Western Africa, used a percussion player from Cuba and hooked up with producer Jari Haapalainen (the Concretes, Camera Obscura, Ed Harcourt). The result is unique mix of Swedish pop melodies and African rhythms - undoubtedly one of the most unique, captivating and catchiest pop records of the year!"

The People's Record will be released on May 18 via Labrador Records. In the meantime, album opener "Western Hospitality" can be downloaded here.

The People's Record:

1. "Western Hospitality"
2. "Isn't That Great?"
3. "Shape Up!"
4. "Dancing With the Mentally Ill"
5. "My Pessimistic Heart"
6. "Back to A"
7. "Like Me"
8. "Be Mad, Get Ill, Be Still"
