Richmond, Virginia's Cloak/Dagger somehow straddle a wonderful line between hardcore punk and raging garage rock, like a bastard child of Hot Snakes, Regulations and Circle Jerks. The result is a body of work that can give the right person goose bumps.
"Don't Need A", the debut track from the band's sophomore record, demonstrates that perfectly. Armed with a chord progression and lead guitar line that will have you pogo-ing in your computer room, the song is pushed into raw perfection by vocalist Jason Mazzola's strained vocal delivery. It's been a while since the cross-over of hoarse hardcore and pop song melody sounded this badass.
