Clay George

Cherry Bank Hotel

Country music is a wind-swept border town whose residents comes in all the varieties of good, bad and ugly. It’s hard to know where to draw the line in the dirt. Clay George seems to be handling himself pretty well though. Drawing on the best of the old, new and in between sounds, George staked his claim early on and brought in the gold with his self-titled debut a few years back. Cherry Bank Hotel comes after a year or so spent in Austin, TX. Doing time in the hippy-tonk Mecca and home of greats like Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams and more, led to an evolution in George’s sound. Victoria’s prodigal son returns, self-assured and full of experience you can’t buy at the general store. Joined by Tolan McNeil on guitar and Carolyn Mark on guest vocals, it’s a Victoria hootenanny. George pays homage to some of the city’s more colourful curiosities, among which the album’s namesake figures prominently with its faded red and yellow neon sign. Clay George is home, so pour the man a drink and cook up some ribs.
