The City Streets Detail 'Winter Lightning' and 'Sawdust & Rum' Albums

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 13, 2012

Montreal-via-Edmonton indie rockers the City Streets have previously released three full-lengths, and they will bring that total up to five in one fell swoop this spring. On May 4, the band will release two new albums, Winter Lighting and Sawdust & Rum, which will come out via Clamour Records.

Winter Lightning was recorded to tape at Montreal's Hotel2Tango studio with producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade). A press release promises that this album was written "under the influence of classic power pop and Motown and features the inventive arrangements you've come to expect and love from the boys."

Winter Lightning will come out on vinyl and as a digital download. A video for the previously unveiled Colin Stetson-assisted single "For All the (Doomed) Lovers" is at the bottom of the page.

As for Sawdust & Rum, frontman Rick Reid wrote in a statement that it was inspired by his grandfather's life, although "some details may have been changed for the sake of rhyme/poetry." It was recorded over a week in a Nova Scotia cabin and it contains "white noise and sadness, joy and walls of distortion. Sometimes all at once."

This one will come out on CD and digitally. The title track is streaming just below the video at the bottom of the page.

To support the releases, the City Streets will be heading out on a North American tour. The dates are below the tracklists.
