Chris Knox Benefit Comp Featuring Jeff Mangum, Yo La Tengo and A.C. Newman Gets North American Release Via Merge Records

Last month, we reported that the long-rumoured benefit comp for Kiwipop legend Chris Knox was finally available in New Zealand. The compilation sees the likes of Yo La Tengo, A.C. Newman, the Mountain Goats, Stephin Merritt, Jay Reatard and many others taking on Knox's work to raise money for the musician, who suffered a debilitating stroke earlier this year.

Now, we're happy to report that Merge will be releasing the double CD in North America on February 23. Right now, they have the full album available for download in their online store. The best idea is to pre-order the CD, because they'll give you the download code right away.

One key difference between the North American release and the one released in New Zealand is the input from Neutral Milk Hotel legend and notorious recluse Jeff Mangum. His cover of Knox's "Sign the Dotted Line" was not ready for inclusion on the NZ release, but does appear on Merge's version.
