Chris Cornell will be the subject of a new biopic. Called Black Days, the film based on the life of the Soundgarden frontman is starting production, with actor John Holiday taking the lead role as the late grunge icon.

While the project is in its very early stages, an announcement that work is getting underway on the biopic came from AmeriFilms LLC/Road Rage Films. Black Days also now has its own website, and filming is set to begin on September 10.

UPDATE (8/24, 3:20 p.m. ET): A representative from the Chris Cornell Estate has told Pitchfork the film is "not sanctioned or approved by the estate." The rep added, "No one contacted the estate for any information."

John Holiday previously played Carl Perkins in the Walk the Line film, as well as was in CMT's Sun Records. The film's casting page indicates, however, that Black Days is still looking for another actor to play a young Cornell, aged 12 to 16.

Chris Cornell died in May 2017 and was found hanged in his hotel room after a concert. His death was ruled a suicide.

Stay tuned for more details on Black Days as they become available.
