When asked to boil the sound of his Constellation Tatsu cassette imprint to five words, Steven Ramsey chose "vibration, expression, new cognisance, possibility and conscious creation." The ambient and experimental artists who have graced the label's roster all demonstrate at least a few of those characteristics. The thoughtful and delicate sounds of such illuminating artists as Celer, Hakobune, Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, Forest Management and Sarah Davachi have all been captured within Ramsey's curatorial orbit.

The celestial soundscapes of Tokyo-based artist Chihei Hatakeyama were first emitted from the Constellation Tatsu galaxy in 2016, with the release of the You're Still In It cassette. The ethos of the label is aligned with Hatakeyama's; his computer-processed acoustic atmospherics fit Ramsey's five words almost perfectly. As such, it's apt that the artist has once again joined forces with the imprint for Scene, a four-song meditation on sheer beauty.

In his work, Hatakeyama lays out a sonic foundation of guitar, vibraphone and piano, which he then smears and sculpts into vaporous clouds of ambient bliss. Songs often blend into each other, as what sounds like a chorus of heavenly creatures calls out mellifluously in waves, at times lush and pillowy, and at others moulded into ornate shapes. Hatakeyama's carefully crafted works of sound art are dizzying in their opulence. This is an artist who has mastered the science of drone.
