Charli XCX Shuts Down Any "Shade" Towards Taylor Swift

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Aug 7, 2019

Charli XCX has taken to Twitter to assure her fans that she has nothing but love for her former tourmate Taylor Swift.

The UK pop star got heat from Swifties yesterday (August 6) for a quote in Pitchfork's latest cover story. She said, "I'm really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour. But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds."

The comment was met with so much backlash from Swift's fans that Charli posted a message clarifying that "there is absolutely no shade and only love here!"

She says that some people are taking the comment out of context, and describes that context as such: "Leading up to that tour I'd been playing a tonne of 18+ club shows and so to be on stage in front of all ages was new to me and made me approach my performances with a whole new kind of energy."

Charli reiterated that "it was brilliant opening for Taylor" and that she was "extremely grateful for the opportunity I was given and how much fun it was to perform to a new audience."
