Champagne Years

"Détente" (video)

Winnipeg indie popsters Champagne Years delivered a video for "Tears on the Phone" earlier this year, and now the four-piece are set to unveil a brand new clip for "Détente" — and Exclaim! has your first look at it.

The track appears on the band's forthcoming debut EP, This Yen Closing My Throat. "When I sent [singer] Gareth [Williams] the song, I purposely failed to mention that it was in multiple time signatures," said guitarist Josh Benoit in a statement. "He has a way of finding the melody and the hook in whatever I conjure up."

As for the video, it was inspired by a recurring dream Williams was having. "We just borrowed a camera and went out into the woods one Saturday," Benoit explained. "I knew I wanted to shoot along the river; I didn't know we'd get so sunburned and mosquito bitten, but I'm happy with what we got. It feels personal, even if the meaning is not totally clear."

Get in on the riverside dream recreation by watching the clip in the player below. This Yen Closing My Throat will be released on December 6, with a show marking the occasion that evening at the Good Will in Winnipeg.
