Cat Power Names New Album, Sets September Release

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 23, 2012

Cat Power has been dropping hints about a new LP for some time now, and she even released a remake of her old song "King Rides By" a little while back. Now, the songwriter also known as Chan Marshall has finally given us some concrete news about the new album.

In a tweet posted on Friday (April 21), Marshall wrote, "I HAVE FINISHED MY RECORD." She later added, "CALLED 'SUN' OUT SEPT. 11 BUT WILL GIFT ANOTHER SONG." Presumably the caps lock means that she's excited about it.

The bulk of Cat Power's albums have come out through Matador, and we're guessing that Sun will be no exception. Marshall previously promised that the album would feature more of her playing guitar and piano, rather than simply singing, so look for it to possibly have more of a stripped-down solo sound.

Stay tuned for that new gift of a song that Marshall promised us, which will presumably arrive well in advance of the album's September 11 release.
