Casiokids Win over $150,000 Thanks to A-ha

Thanks to a flurry of online votes from Casiokids fans, Norway's beloved up-and-coming electro pop outfit have received a generous 1 million kroner grant (approximately $168,000 Canadian) to bolster the band's future growth. The grant (organized by long-running Oslo-based pop rockers A-ha) is intended to spur the growth of Norway's four most promising young artists by providing them with the funds to build international careers. Casiokids have already attracted the attention of more than a few North American critics.

Casiokids were awarded the grant on July 14. In addition to the 1 million kroner in cash, Casiokids also received another million in advertising in VG, Noway's largest daily newspaper. The band will commemorate the endowment by playing an opening set for A-ha during the band's farewell tour next month. The show takes place in Casiokids' hometown of Bergen, Norway on August 28.

Before then, the band will embark on their first North American tour, with a Canadian stop in Vancouver on August 21. Likely due to the band's swift return to Norway to open for A-ha as part of the grant package, the previously scheduled August 27 Toronto performance has been cancelled, as well as a few U.S. dates.
