The Cars' New LP Gets Release Date
Published Feb 04, 2011We never expected that we would be reporting on a new album by the Cars, but sure enough, that's exactly what's happening. Back in the fall, we revealed that the long-defunct new wave group, who initially broke up in 1988, were working on their first album in more than 20 years. Now, we can confirm that this album is actually happening, and it now even has a release date.
Entitled Move Like This, the collection is due out on May 10 via Concord, according to Direct Current. MusicTAP reports that it will be available as a CD, digital download, or in two LP editions: standard vinyl and picture disc.
The first single is called "Sad Song," and it's expected out on March 15, according to the radio industry site FMQB. You can hear a minute-long clip of that song embedded in the video below. Despite the title and lyrics, it doesn't sound particularly sad, as it contains a cheery beat and a catchy mix of synths and guitars.
The new recordings feature the original Cars lineup minus bassist Benjamin Orr, who died back in 2000. As previously reported, keyboardist Greg Hawkes is now writing and recording all of the bass parts.
The Cars' Facebook page has been updated with a few small studio tidbits. This includes a picture of high-profile producer Jacknife Lee (U2, Weezer, R.E.M.), which suggests that he will be producing the new album.
