Have you burned out the oil on Midnights? Don't forget, Carly Rae Jepsen also released another album of her pétillant, impeccable brand of pop on the same day as Taylor Swift — and it sounds like that's not all. Less than a week on from The Loneliest Time entering the world, the prolific Canadian singer-songwriter is already teasing the potential for one of her infamous B-sides collections to follow.
In a new interview with The Ringer, Jepsen revealed that she's currently narrowing down her options for carrying on the tradition of E•MO•TION: Side B and Dedicated Side B from a laundry list of 65 songs.
Journalist Justin Sayles asked if the pop star had really written 100 songs for her new album — a rather standard, if not pared-down approach for the perfectionist, who penned over 200 for her watershed E•MO•TION. "I didn't count a hundred," Jepsen corrected, "but we were going through B-sides the other night with my A&R, and he's like, 'Well, what are the contenders?' And I'm like, 'There's 65 that I've listened to that I could make something of, so we can narrow it down from there.'" She added, "Those were the ones that I liked, but there's more from that pile."
When asking for confirmation of a Loneliest Time B-sides collection, Jepsen played coy. "I'll say that I opened up the folder of the songs and started listening again with that question in mind," she admitted. "You know what? I think the verdict is out still." Enshrouded in mystery!
While she does love a through-line, the artist definitely went to new depths with her latest album — so only time will tell what that means for her leftovers.
