Can's Holger Czukay Reissues 'Der Osten Ist Rot' and 'Rome Remains Rome'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 2, 2014

Beloved Krautrock act Can have had no shortage of reissues as of late, but the group's many members also have a deep well of solo material. Former bass player and soundscape master Holger Czukay was treated to some vinyl reissues last year, and that will continue with the arrival of a double 10-inch vinyl release.

The release collects Czukay's albums Der Osten Ist Rot (1984) and Rome Remains Rome (1987). The records have been packaged as one release and include some previously unreleased remixes.

A press release promises that "both albums continue Czukay's fascination with tape loops, short wave radios, dictaphones, dub reggae, and early sampling technology to create delightfully warped, cut-up compositions imbued with mystery, sentimentality, and humour."

Der Osten Ist Rot / Rome Remains Rome will be available as a double 10-inch record and a digital download on July 8 via Groenland Records. Listen to "Träum Mal Wieder" below.
