Camp Wavelength organizers were set to bring the festival back to Toronto Island this summer, but the event has now been forced to move the event inland after high water levels caused flooding on the island earlier this year.
The festival has now announced it will forego overnight camping and move its programming to Toronto's downtown west end as Day Camp in the City, promising a mix of ticketed concerts and free outdoor shows in special locations.
"Though we have held out hope that the tragic situation will improve, we have not been seeing the grounds recover at the rate needed to guarantee a safe and comfortable festival experience at Artscape Gibraltar Point," organizers wrote in a statement.
The festival, taking place August 18 to 20, has been split into two separate components. The all-ages "Day Camp" portion will take place outdoors at a location to be announced, with free admission and a licensed beverage area, while the "Night Camp" portion will feature 19-plus shows at the Garrison and Longboat Hall (at the Great Hall), with single tickets available for $24.99, plus fees.
A pre-festival boat cruise is also on deck, taking place August 11 aboard the River Gambler. Admission for the cruise comes included with an all-access festival pass. They are available for $64.99, while those who previously purchased a festival-only pass for the island will be honoured the same.
If overnight camping was a dealbreaker for you, the festival is offering refunds to existing pass-holders. Those who elect to keep their 2017 Camping Pass will receive an all-access pass, in addition to a Wavelength Passport, guaranteeing them entry to every Wavelength show for the next year free of charge. Those with Lodge passes will be contacted to discuss transfers and/or refunds.
As previously reported, acts such as Deerhoof, Dilly Dally, Jessy Lanza, Rich Aucoin, DATU X HATAW, DJ Shub. Duchess Says, Emilie & Ogden, the Luyas, Un Blonde are set to play the event.
