Calvin Johnson Announces New Album with the Hive Dwellers

Since last year, eclectic indie forefather Calvin Johnson has been extensively touring with a new band called the Hive Dwellers. The group features a revolving cast of members, including recognizable names like Karl Blau, Gabriel Will, Brian Weber, Fred Thomas and many others. Having developed a solid sound on the road, the group are finally ready for their first proper release.

The debut Hive Dwellers album is called Get In and will be released this winter from Johnson's venerable K Records imprint. A press release suggests that the album will likely resemble the oddball pop/dance hybrid of Johnson's previous work, saying, "When they emerge from the froth and frumble of their active bicycle-powered lives to make music, the Hive Dwellers emit a pelt of bright, shiny (NOW) with a love of pop music underground and it's more vacuous mainstream distant cousins. Dance. Smile when you say that. Raw freedom Dance."

A tracklisting for Get In has not been released as of yet, but look for the album to emerge on December 7. Until then, enjoy a surf-tinged live version of Johnson's "Lies Goodbye" below.
