Broken Social Scene are apparently embarking on some big-screen action, with Scenesters Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff and Andrew Whiteman playing the role of a wedding band in the upcoming film The Time Traveler's Wife. The Robert Schwentke-directed movie stars Eric "the Hulk" Bana and Rachel "Mean Girl" McAdams, and as The Playlist reports, features the BSS crew doing a cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (not that we really need another cover that one).
Apparently, the film also includes another BSS song before morphing into "Love Will Tear Us Apart," but there's no word on which one it is or if it's even new. Also, along with a score penned by Mychael Danna (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus), Canning reportedly contributed some more music to the soundtrack, which may or may not make it into the film's final cut.
And while all this is likely to raise some excitement in BSS fans, there is a downside. The Time Traveler's Wife, which is based on Audrey Niffenegger's novel of the same name, has been riddled with production problems and been pushed back multiple times since it started filming in 2007. At this point, it appears as if the movie won't be released until February 2010, says IMDB. So holding your breath on this one is not advised.
