Broken Social Scene dug up a previously unreleased tune from the annals earlier this month to contribute to the Broadsheet Music: A Year in Review collection. Though "Golden Facelift" was tracked at the same time as 2010's Forgiveness Rock Record, a new music video for the tune takes a cold hard look at 2014.
Though initially filled with lush shots of nature — from powder-dusted mountaintops to opulent ocean scenes — the video soon dips into newscast-cribbing scenes highlighting events in the Ukraine, Ferguson and more. Mixed into the mayhem are shots of Putin, Michael Brown, Jian Ghomeshi, James Franco, Bill Cosby, Bono, a guy in a clown mask, cosmetic surgeries, and scenes of unrest between police and protestors.
"2014 has not been without its beauty, but it has also been a year of incredible brutality and all of humanity has a great deal to answer for," the band wrote in a statement. "Broken Social Scene aims to echo the voice and concerns of the underdog while creating music that will hopefully inspire those who are doing good and useful things for this planet and humankind."
You can reflect on the state we're in by giving the video a peep down below.
