Brasstronaut's Tariq Announces 'Moonwalker' Solo EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 11, 2013

In recent years, Canadian music industry lifer Tariq Hussain has been playing guitar as a member of Brasstronaut, but he hasn't entirely abandoned his solo career. The songwriter will release his five-song Moonwalker EP this spring through Headless Owl Records.

Moonwalker gets its name from the Tariq-penned song that appeared on Brasstronaut's 2012 album Mean Sun. That song reemerges here in slightly more stripped-down form as the closing track.

The EP was recorded with Shawn Cole (You Say Party, Yukon Blonde) at Fader Mountain Sound in Vancouver. It features guest appearances from several of Tariq's bandmates, plus Paul Rigby (Neko Case's band), Leah Abramson and Jody Glenham.

Speaking to Exclaim!, Tariq noted that the record's sound is densely layered, with acoustic guitars, synths and horns. You can sample that lush, space-y style by streaming the meditative "Leaving Song" below. The tracklist is also below, while the album cover is above.

The exact release date has yet to be set in stone, although Tariq has booked a release show in Vancouver on May 30.
