We recently reported that Deerhunter/Atlas Sound leader Bradford Cox would be among the artists participating in Old Ideas with New Friends, a Columbia Records-curated project to film various artists covering their favourite Cohen songs. Right on cue, we've now got a version of Cox playing "Seems So Long Ago, Nancy."
Before the song, the pompadour-sporting Cox explains, "Ever since the first time I heard it, I thought it was the most haunting song I'd ever heard. I think it's something that all of us can relate to, y'know, and be moved by. I think it's an achievement that very few songwriters can hope for, to write a song like that."
He then gives the tune a stripped-down acoustic run-through, making this a rare moment when we hear him performing without any effects.
Watch it over at Pitchfork.
