On July 7, 2007 (7/7/07), Japanese psych rock collective Boredoms held the 77 Boadrum concert in New York's Brooklyn Bridge Park. The event saw 77 drummers come together for one epic jam. The event was followed with similar concerts in 2008 and 2009, and spearheaded a new season of growth for the unpredictable band. Now, the initial 77 Boadrum concert will be immortalized on DVD.
The official performance documentary is simply called 77 Boadrum, and will be released by Thrill Jockey this fall. In addition to the actual set, the film will include behind the scenes rehearsal footage and interviews. The film was helmed by documentarian Jun Kawaguchi, who has followed the band for over a decade.
Thrill Jockey will release 77 Boadrum on DVD on September 7. The set will also come with a series of photo postcards from the event.
