The Books' Nick Zammuto Launches Side-Project

New York experimentalists the Books aren't exactly prolific: last year's The Way Out was their first full-length offering since 2005's Lost and Safe. Perhaps this slow pace is why singer/guitarist Nick Zammuto has opted to start a side-project, simply called Zammuto.

In a blog post, the songwriter wrote that this won't be a solo act, explaining, "It will be a three- or four-piece band, hopefully playing shows by the end of the year."

He'll be releasing rough material periodically through the Books' blog, with plans to release an album sometime in the future.

"I'll be working on the new record throughout the summer (and for however long it takes), and whenever I have a 'working draft' of a new track, I'll post it for a couple days," he revealed. "When I have a solid albums worth I'll revisit all the tracks to pull album together as a whole."

Each time, he posts a new song, it will only be up for a few days. Of course, thanks to file sharing, the tracks and bound to circulate within that time, so it shouldn't be too hard to seek them out.

The first track from the project is a skewed electro song called "Yay," and you can listen to it below. Stay tuned to Zammuto's website for future updates.
