After announcing their expansion into a four-piece with the My Love Remains the Same EP back in September, Exclaim! Class of 2023 alumni Bonnie Trash — helmed by twins Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor of Guelph — have announced the upcoming release of their sophomore album, previewed today by latest single "Veil of Greed."
Mourning You is due February 28 via Hand Drawn Dracula. It's the follow-up to Bonnie Trash's 2022 debut LP Malocchio, and Sarafina told BrooklynVegan that it's about "losing someone you love. It's about the horrors of grief, haunting you every day." The record was inspired by the death of their beloved Nonna Maria, who provided between-song spoken word on some of the band's earlier recordings.
Of stony new ripper "Veil of Greed," the Bortolon-Vettor sisters added, "When you lose the one you love so dearly, it's a cut that's so deep, it rips your heart out of your chest. You try to continue on, but you suffer and you bleed. Grief is like an open wound that will never fully heal. It can consume you if you let it. Sometimes, it's best to let it feed, allowing the pain to exist with the beautiful memories you hold close to your heart."
