Bob Dylan is preparing to roll out another huge batch of extras with the latest instalment in his Bootleg Series. This collection focuses on the mid-'60s, and now an alternate version of his song "Visions of Johanna" has gotten a video.
This version is peppier and more rock-oriented than the one that appeared on 1966's Blonde on Blonde. While Dylan and his band tear into a barroom groove, we see visuals that are every bit as cryptic as the lyrics, as archival footage of the singer is intercut with late-night shots of New York City and seemingly disconnected images of people lazing around, a snake, some sort of mummy, blindfolds, an eagle and more.
Watch the curious clip below [via the Guardian]. It was directed by John Hillcoat.
The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 will be out on November 6 through Columbia/Legacy. There are a few different versions of the set, with the largest consisting of a whopping 18 discs.
