If you take Damon Albarn at his word, Blur's reunion will likely come to a close with their set at Coachella this summer. Of course, it might be for the best — the Britpop band's founding drummer Dave Rowntree has a campaign to plan, after all.
Rowntree revealed yesterday that he's been selected as an MP candidate for the Labour Party in the upcoming UK general election. He's running in the Mid Sussex district.
"I’m delighted to have the opportunity to become Labour’s first Mid Sussex MP," he said in a statement obtained via Stereogum. "Residents have their best chance in a generation to make their vote count and return a Labour MP to parliament. The [conservative] Tories have run out of ideas, and the Lib Dems have run out of steam."
As it stands, the centre-left Labour Party, helmed by Keir Starmer, sits as the official opposition to Tory Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Prior to his ongoing campaign, Rowntree was a ward councillor in Norwich from 2017 to 2021.
