Toronto-based jazz quintet Blue Season have announced plans for their debut EP Live Session 918, recorded, as the title suggests, live off the floor at The Music Gallery at 918 Bathurst. The record is due to arrive on November 11, and today, we have a taste of what's to come.

The group — whose goal is to "redefine jazz music through ambient electronic meditations and cinematic tapestries of sounds" — is comprised of alto saxophonist/bandleader Liam Mitro, BADBADNOTGOOD's Leland Whitty on tenor sax, Chris Pruden on piano and Prophet, Julian Anderson-Bowes on the upright bass and drummer Eric West.

The record promises "a genre-defying experience for any music lover interested in the shapes of jazz to come," which can be heard on lead single "Placeholder / Cherish" — out today. The track is said to launch listeners "into a vibrant scene complete with energetic grooves [and] textural atmospheric sounds," punctuated by a dynamic sax solo from Whitty.

The four-track EP runs 24 minutes long, five of which you can hear today, courtesy of Katherine Kwan-shot footage from the session. Watch that below, where you'll also find the EP's tracklisting.
