Blood Orange Unveils Collaborative Cassette with Nelly Furtado

Blood Orange has worked with some notable pop collaborators over the years, as the British songwriter also known as Dev Hynes has teamed with Carly Rae Jepsen, Sky Ferreira, FKA twigs, Florence + the Machine and more. Now, he's linked up with another, as he and Canadian star Nelly Furtado are issuing a surprise cassette.

The tape is called Hadron Collider and it will be released specially for tonight's Blood Orange and Friends gig at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Hynes posted a picture of the cassette on Instagram.

He captioned the photo, "SURPRISE!! I made a cassette with Nelly Furtado only available (for now) at the shows today! Maybe she's in town & we can play it live…" From this, it's not clear how large in scope the project is.

Nelly Furtado, meanwhile, referred to the collaboration as a "song," suggesting that the tape might consist of just one track called "Hadron" (or perhaps there's another song called "Collider" on the B-side?). Her tweets confirmed that she will indeed be at the show tonight. It remains to be seen when or if this material will be released more widely, but Hynes' note that the tape will be "only available (for now) at the shows today" seems to imply that a larger-scale roll-out will follow.
