Black Milk & Danny Brown

Black & Brown

Danny Brown is having a hell of a year. Just months after signing with A-Trak's Fools Gold imprint and dropping the acclaimed XXX mixtape, Danny links with Detroit producer Black Milk for the Black & Brown EP. Black Milk plays to his partner's strengths, supplying mesmerizing, Madlib-esque compositions that complement Danny's quirky flow. There's no real subject matter, just hard, funny punch lines about sex, violence and drugs. Who else could make lines like, "Morphine metaphors make you do the shoulder lean/smoke the young dro, this granddaddy with promethazine" sound fly? The previously released title track is the highlight, pairing Danny's videogame punch lines with keening violins. The warped psych-rock samples on "Zap" and "LOL" lend themselves to the best rhymes on the record, especially the amusing flip of texting jargon to crack sales on "LOL." Short and sweet at 22 minutes, Black & Brown will definitely hold Danny heads until the next full-length.
