Yesterday (January 22), it was announced that Texas psych-rock crew the Black Angels were heading out on the road with Montreal's Elephant Stone, but it appears that those dates were just part of the Angels' plans for 2013. It's now been announced that they'll soon be dropping a new LP called Indigo Meadow, which will arrive April 2 through Blue Horizon.
A press release explains that the album, their first since 2010's Phosphene Dream and fourth overall, was produced by John Congleton (David Byrne & St. Vincent, Explosions In The Sky, the Walkmen) and is said to offer "righteous riffs and dogmatic drones" that offer "a more expansive emotional terrain" than past work. Highlights hinted at include the organ groove behind "Love Me Forever" and the politically-charged "Don't Play With Guns," which deals with the topic of gun control. It was reportedly written shortly before the Aurora, CO theatre shooting last summer
"Our music has always tried to shed light on issues that may be hard to deal with or confront," singer-guitarist Alex Maas said in a statement of the song, which you can stream down below. "If people think they can ignore the issues, they are wrong. Don't play with guns, don't touch a hot stove, don't give your child a poisonous snake, don't turn the cheek when artists are willing to discuss these issues."
On top of those previously announced North American dates with Elephant Stone in April, which include stops in Toronto and Montreal, the Black Angels have expanded their tour schedule to include even more North American dates, which pair them with Hanni El Khatib and Wall of Death. There is one more Canadian date to report, which takes place at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom May 14. You can see the band's updated tour schedule down below.
