Vancouver singer-songwriter Billy the Kid's latest full-length Horseshoes & Hand Grenades is set to explode on September 8 via Xtra Mile, but you can give it an early listen now at Exclaim.ca.
Recording and touring on a variety of crowd-funded projects over the past couple years, Billy Pettinger enlisted fellow genre-straddling folk-punk Frank Turner to produce the new material. "Eventually it became apparent that we were a pretty good team but he came up with the concept of recording 'live off the floor' which I think contributed a lot to the finished product," Pettinger said in a statement.
As for the final results? "I just think it sounds badass."
Turner plays alongside Pettinger on the record, with his Sleeping Souls bandmate Nigel Powell pitching in on drums. The album boasts straight-up rock'n'roll on tracks like lead single "Phone Bills" and "Back to You," while "The Quarry" shows off a softer side.
Billy the Kid will be taking the forthcoming LP out on tour, opening for Billy Bragg this fall. You can check out the upcoming dates below and scroll beyond them to hear Horseshoes & Hand Grenades in its entirety.
