Billy Eli

Trailer Park Angel

BY John F. ButlandPublished Mar 1, 2002

Eli is another Texas boy writing songs about beautiful losers and smearing the lines between rock and country while doing it. It’s not exactly like we have shortage of those guys these days, and he has an obvious artistic debt to predecessors like Steve Earle, Guy Clark and a shitload of other good old boys, most of them sporting three names. And while he may not be a true peer of Earle and Clark, he does have a solid roots-y sound and can write a song. He wisely keeps thing stripped down and never gets too fancy for his own good. Trailer Park Angel is not exactly a groundbreaker, but it is definitely more than a few notches above average. It’s the sort of stuff that’d make a night of listening in a club a winner, even if your pals never did show and none of the girls would dance with you.
