Billy Corgan is known for having a bit of a big mouth, so it only makes sense that the ultra-opinionated rocker is writing a memoir. The Smashing Pumpkins star previously revealed that he was working on a "spiritual memoir" about how "this boy named William came to find God." We haven't heard about the project in some time, but now Corgan has opened up about his plans for the book, which is called God Is Everywhere, from Here to There.
The songwriter told Rolling Stone that he has completed around 300 pages, which accounts for only about one-third of the book. "It's a very interesting take inside my personal life and my band life," he said. "I've decided to write this on my own, which is complete insanity. I try to spend about an hour a day on the book, which is the time I would usually put towards music writing. So that means I have to find that hour, because I won't give up that music writing time. It's a journey, for sure."
This is hardly the first time Corgan has discussed his personal experiences. In the past, he's opened up about his spirituality and struggles with depression, as well as discussed being abused as a child.
"It's totally fresh material," he explained. "When I started talking about child abuse stuff [on MySpace], and people started saying, 'You have no right to talk about that stuff,' it was a total turn-off. Because people start saying, 'Well, my dad ripped my arm off, so you can't talk.' Well, I'm just talking about my journey. I apologize that I didn't get beat more. Talking about child abuse in public brings out a lot of weird stuff from other people that haven't healed from it, so I just got really bummed out, said, 'Fuck it,' and stopped."
Expect God Is Everywhere, from Here to There to drop sometime next year. And, of course, get set for those Smashing Pumpkins reissues.
