Montreal-based technical death metal brigade Beneath the Massacre have announced that work on their latest EP has finally wrapped, a title has been slapped on it and an official release date has been set.
In a press statement put forth by their label, Prosthetic Records, the crew reveal that this follow-up to 2008 effort Dystopia will be dubbed Marée Noire and is slated to hit the market on September 14.
Discussing the affair, guitarist/co-producer Christopher Bradley noted that the band took a different approach to Marée Noire compared to previous outings.
"Some songs were more structured by melodies, while others all started from drums pattern. I think it makes the songs stand out a little more," he said in a statement.
Vocalist Elliot Desgagnes commented that "the tones are a little rawer," adding that the assistance of fellow producer Chris Donaldson (Cryptopsy) and masterer Alan Douches (Hatebreed, Converge) was a benefit in the studio. Their familiarity with the band and their style helped capture exactly what BTM were going for.
Furthermore, Desgagnes noted that the EP format is essential to understanding Marée Noire's themes. "It's easier lyrically to make connections between the songs and follow a thought pattern. We named the EP Marée Noire (Black Tide) because I was writing lyrics on Absurdism, self-fulfilled prophecy and corporations raping everything when BP started to shit in the Gulf of Mexico."
