Bass Drum of Death Announce New LP

BY Alex HudsonPublished Apr 9, 2013

This week marks exactly two years since the release of Bass Drum of Death's debut album, GB City, and now the Mississippi garage-punk act are back with their sophomore effort. The self-titled collection is due out on June 25 via Innovative Leisure.

The album was recorded in the fall of 2012 by band leader John Barrett in his home studio. Some of the songs reportedly came together during all-night marathons in the midst of tour, while "Bad Reputation" was written and recorded entirely in a three-hour surge of creativity that capped off the sessions.

While past Bass Drum of Death albums were lacking bass guitar, this album features the instrument on every song. Barrett explained in a statement, "I don't ever wanna feel stuck, like, 'I can't put bass on this because I didn't do that before.'"

Scroll past the tracklist and the band's U.S. tour dates with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to hear the surging single "Shattered Me," which blends grimy fuzzy with poppy tunefulness.
