Mark and Marichka Marczyk of the Lemon Bucket Orkestra have previously branched out from the band to create a folk opera dubbed Counting Sheep, and now the pair have debuted yet another musical endeavour. The duo have unveiled a new project by the name Balaklava Blues and shared their first song under the new banner.
"Don't Leave Me" will appear on the two-piece's debut EP, and it arrives with an accompanying video. The clip was inspired by the couple's time on the frontlines of the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2014.
It incorporates footage from The Invisible Battalion, a film about a women's resistance movement in the Crimea region annexed by Russia, and the Soviet-era cartoon Hedgehog in the Fog.
"There's a tradition of expressing the effects of war though music in our country," Marichka explained in a statement. "And we are part of that tradition."
Watch their musical statement get paired with equally powerful visuals in the video for "Don't Leave Me."
