If you're on TikTok, you've probably seen an intense takeover of the Adult Swim bump trend, which is marked by quick, creative videos similar to the TV network's own short commercial breaks. The TikTok versions vary in content, but one signifier remains the same: the soundtrack.
The trend kicked off in May thanks to New York rapper-producer VANO 3000, who created the bumps' unofficial soundtrack, a song titled "Running Away." What some TikTok users might not know, is that the sound clip is actually a sped-up sample of BADBADNOTGOOD's 2016 song "Time Moves Slow" featuring Future Islands lead singer Samuel T. Herring.
"I was just listening to music as usual, just vibing," VANO 3000 told Vice of the inspiration behind the BBNG remix. "I also wanted to put a message in it. I sampled the [lyric] 'Running away is easy; it's the [leaving] that's hard.' It was perfect because people could interpret it in so many different ways. It just talks to you."
Since the trend went mega-viral this month, the Canadian group have officially joined TikTok. As of right now, they've only posted one video, and it's a response to the bump trend. It's a clip that features the band playing a jazzy version of "Time Moves Slow" and text over the clip that reads: "ok vano 3000 + adult swim / you win / we're on tiktok," before revealing the [as] logo on a drum kit.
See that below, where you can also find VANO's original and Adult Swim's response, as well as some highlights from the trend.
