A week after Montreal-based rapper Backxwash teased her new STIGMATA EP by dropping the title track, she's now released the whole thing. The four-track release is available on Bandcamp now.
When we spoke with Backxwash earlier this summer, she told us that STIGMATA was envisioned as a short release built around samples of Christian metal bands. The final product delivers on that promise, with three Backxwash tracks clocking in at 11 minutes, featuring samples of Christian metal bands Renascent, Antestor and Saving Grace. The EP concludes with a short "INTERLUDE OF DOOM" by fellow Montreal experimenter Joni Void.
The EP also features guest appearances by collaborators old and new, including Ada Rook and Devi McCallion of recently disbanded noise pop duo Black Dresses, Will Owen Bennett, Alekto and Camp Blood.
STIGMATA comes just two months after Backxwash's second album, God Has Nothing to Do With This Leave Him Out of It, which Exclaim! named the Best Album of 2020 So Far. That album is also currently one of 10 finalists for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize.
