Babygirl

'As You Wish' (EP stream)

Toronto-based "dreamo" duo Babygirl are set to release their debut EP As You Wish tomorrow (July 29), but Exclaim! is giving you an early listen.

Kirsten Clark and Cameron Breithaupt have come together to craft a compilation of jangly indie pop cuts that will have you gazing down and tapping your toes at the same time. From the emotional exhaustion of "It's Getting Late" to the ennui of "Overbored" to the FOMO of "Everything's Happening Without Me" and finally ending up with the regretful longing of "Unwant You," the EP manages to channel melancholy into melodic dream-pop gems.

"As You Wish is about capturing our youth and its various anxieties — expressing uneasiness in a way that is easy to listen to," the band tells Exclaim! "At its core, it's a pop record. With a splash of angst. We love working as pop songwriters. But there are limitations as to what that can mean for our output sonically. We wanted to put together a project that was a love letter to bands like Alvvays, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine. Bands that wouldn't necessarily fit on contemporary hits radio."
