Summing The Approach

BY Sean PalmerstonPublished Oct 1, 1999

While Bloomington, IN is not that far away from Chicago, it seems a little unfair that their native trio keeps being referred to as being so Chicago-like. The instrumental trio seems to be compared to Slint and other Chicago affiliated bands at every turn, but their influences lie closer to Larks Tongue in Aspic-era King Crimson, and the slowcore meandering of much missed trio Codeine, instead. Four tracks in total, Summing The Approach makes the best out of Ativin’s twin guitars and drum line-up. This is easily their best release yet.
