Arctic Monkeys

My Propeller

BY Jessica LewisPublished May 18, 2010

This four-song B-side single comes from its predecessor, Humbug, half-a-year later. They're fairly low-key and don't really rock out of their small context, but they do contain catchy moments. The Monkeys have clearly strayed from the sound they plied back in the Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not days of 2006, but it feels like they're growing up. Some moments recall front-man Alex Turner's side-project, the Last Shadow Puppets, but are definitely better than that group's album. James Ford (a producer and member of Simian Mobile Disco and the Puppets) produced the titular tune, while the band produced the other three tracks. These four songs won't make a memorable dent in your Monkeys collection, but a few listens couldn't hurt.
