Nova Scotia soul artist Aquakultre has announced a new album. Don't Trip is out on July 22 through Forward Music Group and Black Buffalo Records, and the title track is out now.
The musician also known as Lance Sampson made the album during pandemic lockdowns, when he first conceptualized it as a five-song EP about the intense early stage of his relationship with his partner, Julia. It later expanded into a 13-song full-length with over 20 contributors, including pHoenix Pagliacci of TRP.P, Calgary duo Sargeant X Comrade, and returning collaborator DJ Uncle Fester (with whom Aquakultre previously made the album Bleeding Gums Murphy).
Lead single "Don't Trip" was inspired by Snow's "Be Like You," and it was written on a keyboard that Rich Aucoin donated to a studio fundraiser. Sampson said in a statement, "'Don't Trip' is just about reassuring each other in a relationship that this is for real, this is long term, and no matter what, we got enough trust in one another where we don't have to worry about anything."

Don't Trip is the follow-up to Aquakultre two 2020 albums, Legacy and Bleeding Gums Murphy. Back in 2020, Sampson shared a photo of his lockdown setup, where he was working on the music that became Don't Trip.
