Apostolum

Writing and recording repetitive, melancholic doom/black metal is a severely hit or miss affair, even more so than most genres. If the songs aren’t structured effectively, a less experienced group can put the listener to sleep in no time. Apostolum have compounded the problem by choosing to buffer their adequate original material with two obnoxiously long interludes and a Katatonia cover ("Brave”), which leaves you with a total of two long-winded tracks of original music. As an introduction to the group’s fusion of depressive doom, raw black metal and atmospherics, it’s acceptable, but in order for the group to make any kind of formidable splash on Moribund’s already overcrowded roster, more time and effort will be required next time around.
