Somali-Canadian singer-songwriter Amaal is back with a magnetic new single "Honey." It arrives complete with an accompanying visual where she introduces us to her unapologetic alter ego, Milly — the namesake of her forthcoming EP, anticipated sometime this fall.
Amaal is from a conservative Muslim community, so sexual liberation is explicitly considered taboo. Milly allows her to shed those traditional inhibitions and embrace her sexuality. "Honey" is a sensual, feeling-yourself anthem, pulsing staccato with sticky affirmations.
The artist said in a statement: "My music is a celebration of my womanhood. It's the sound of me reclaiming my power, my pleasure, myself."
In the Dan LeMoyne-directed video, Amaal lives an expensive, luxurious lifestyle with immaculate styling, private jets and bubble baths — but she reminds us that her honey is "Sweeter than money." She dances as if awakening with jolts of movement, levelling up into the most unabashed version of herself and revelling in all the sweetness of who she's becoming.

Milly will mark the follow-up to her 2019 debut Black Dove.
