Philadelphia-based lo-fi indie pop kid Alex G (real name Alex Giannascoli) has amassed a pretty impressive back catalogue for a 22-year-old, already racking up seven full-length records. Well, that pile is about to get bigger, as the prolific singer-songwriter has revealed plans for an eighth one titled Beach Music.
Missing beach season by a couple months, the record is due out on October 9 through Domino.
A press release explains that the new record was written and recorded in Giannascoli's apartment between fall of last year and this past spring during breaks from touring. It marks a departure from his previous style of writing whole albums at once and saw him spacing out the writing process over the course of multiple months — an adjustment he had to make as a touring musician.
As for the sound, it hears him playing with new influences that morphed into an collection that includes everything from "piano-based laments to Southern rock to the rhythmic focus of techno."
"Every song is coming from a different place," Giannascoli said in a statement. "It branches off in all these directions, but it has its own sound. It's not something I do intentionally, but I'm the common thread."
Beach Music will be available on limited-edition deluxe coloured vinyl along with a bootleg LP of Alex G Live at the Headroom, as well as on cassette, CD and as a digital download. You can see the album artwork pictured above, while the tracklisting can be found below.
