Just over a year after Ace of Wands released debut album Lioness, the Toronto-based rock trio have unveiled the first taste of their forthcoming follow-up, due later this year. Lead single "Feminine Values" has arrived alongside an accompanying music video.

The scorching track turns a bed of delayed guitar into a roaring squall, where frontwoman Lee Rose questions the "feminine values" imposed on her since childhood: "From the moment I said I was 'she,' she never had a chance," and, "Happily regress to demure restraint, temperance and virtue, concentrate on all those feminine values to fill my body up."

As expressed through the song, "I resist the constraints of the male gaze," says Rose in a statement. "I resist the objectification of female bodies. I celebrate and honour what is true for me in each and every way those truths appear — in rage, in grief, in sadness, in joy."

The track has been treated to a dizzying music video directed by Samuel Scott, where footage of the trio performing is intercut with symbols of traditional female gender roles such as dolls and wedding dresses.

Watch the "Feminine Values" video below. Ace of Wands will be celebrating the song and video's release with a hometown show at the Baby G on March 14.
