Alberta-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Aaron Goodvin is back with his sophomore album, V. The 2018 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Songwriter of the Year's second album, named after his wife Victoria, includes songs that are mostly inspired by his love.
"You Are" is Goodvin's latest top ten hit, and it's not hard to see why. Catchy, upbeat and with a head-bopping tempo, it's one of the few country-pop songs on this largely mainstream country album. "Bars & Churches" is a ballad, while "Kill A Kiss" has a slowed-down tempo, but with a porch-swinging feel.
Closing out V are "Take It to the House" and "Lonely Drum 2.0," two upbeat line-dancing style songs. With a voice like Eric Church, Goodvin's songs are also similar to Luke Bryan's, which makes sense, since he's written material for Bryan.
What makes this almost 35-minute album shine is the blending of genres and song topics, ranging from love and loss to having a good time, but not in a bro-country way.
Having co-written every song on the album and co-produced it, Goodvin's final product is a mix of originality, but with a bit of what's already out in the industry. Either way, it's worth a listen.
