4th Pyramid

T. Dot to N.Y.: Worldwide

Def Jux’s token Canuck drops this mix-tape to whet appetites before his upcoming Twice as Strong album. As a collection of odds and ends — some produced by 4th Pyramid and some outsourced to others like Mutamassik and Camu Tao — there’s not a lot of cohesion between tracks. But, there are many reasons for picking up Worldwide. The song that will likely stand out the most is "The Line-Up (4th Pyra-Mix),” which features quality verses from some of the biggest names in the East Coast underground: Wordsworth, J-Treds, Thirstin Howl III, Vast Aire, Breezly Brewin and MF Doom. C-Rayz Walz, Pyramid’s partner in the Angel & the Preacher, also drops by on two other tracks, "High & Dumb” and "Making the Jux.” There are also a couple of freestyle sessions from a radio appearance on a station in Paris, France, that gets Pyramid accolades from Lord Jazz (of well-respected, mid-’90s trio Lords of the Underground). The rest of Worldwide is made up of solo tracks that feature 4th Pyramid’s fantasy-influenced, hip-hop heavy lyricism. While this is just a teaser, Worldwide gives hope that Twice as Strong should be just that, twice as strong.
