While sharing a hardcore backbone, New York as a home and the Hare Krishna movement as inspiration with fellow ragers the Cro-Mags, one can discern within but a moment of latest offering 18.61 that 108 are on their own path. A little more chaotic and mid-tempo chug-oriented than one might expect, 18.61 comes across with that exciting sense that things are frighteningly loose yet being pushed hard, to the point that they might fall apart at any moment. While a few more unhindered grooves would give the album a stronger sense of appeal, when the band do put pyrotechnics and cacophonous rage aside, they are undeniably authoritative. Still, while everything is well executed, things are too disjointed ― there just aren't enough hooks for this release to feel interesting or allow it to completely embed in the brain.
