Studio Ghibli's GKIDS has shared the English trailer for the studio's first entirely 3DCG animated feature, Earwig and the Witch.
Directed by Goro Miyazaki, the son of Ghibli mastermind Hayao Miyazaki — who previously did From Up on Poppy Hill and Tales from Earthsea — the film is based on the children's novel of the same name by British author Diana Wynne Jones, whose Howl's Moving Castle became the 2004 Ghibli classic.
Earwig and the Witch follows a character named Earwig — an orphan who heads out on a big adventure to meet her mother, who is said to possess magical powers.
The English dub of the film will be voiced by Kacey Musgraves (who has also contributed a recording of the movie's theme song, "Don't Disturb Me"), as well as Richard E. Grant and Dan Stevens. The titular Earwig will be played by Taylor Paige Henderson.
GKIDS is planning to release the film in U.S. theatres in early 2021, though no firm release date has been set.
Until then, watch the trailer below.
